Don’t you love when people say, “You look tired! You should relax this weekend!” Like, okay, Carol…sounds good. 👌🏻
In motherhood, relaxing is relative. You don’t get “weekends”. Sleeping in is an urban legend. The laundry pile gives zero fucks that you just want to binge watch something on Netflix. Texts, phone calls and emails don’t just go away because you want to chill. And lively toddlers need to be entertained. But today, I channeled my inner child in this pic….well at least my shirt.
Other than a walk around the neighborhood to get my toddler out before she started aggressively redecorating my home, I did not leave my house. I didn’t put on a stitch of makeup. I showered and got right back into inside clothes…who am I kidding, I wear shit like this outside too. I didn’t cook. I didn’t empty the dishwasher. I didn’t drive anyone anywhere. I didn’t sit in a maddening carpool line. I didn’t have homework to check that I couldn’t even understand anyway.
There are a million things to do a million times a day as a parent, even on a slow day, a weekend. Yet, it felt like I could breathe today. For the first time in a couple of weeks. Closest I’m ever going to get to relaxing for the foreseeable future.
